Policy and procedures followed by Council are there as a guide and for most part work well to service our City of Willoughby.

However, there will be exceptions to the “rules.” In these circumstances, effected people should have the opportunity to engage with Council and concerns addressed.

Petitions can be useful in raising community awareness and help Council make informed decisions on matters important to a community.

Devonshire Childcare parents and friends raised a petition with 1200 signature for Council to continue its management of the childcare service.

Council voted to proceed with the outsourcing of the service. Willoughby residents deserve better!

Action for our community voice Vote 1 for Anna Greco

On the surface there is no harm, except on items of great local concern. On these issues the local voice may be ignored by an aspiring political party candidate in favour of the affiliated party position.

Declaring independence must be both in name and essence otherwise we are lead by the will of the political party machine.

Having said this, I believe no one should have an “independent” voice in Council; on the contrary, a genuine independent is the voice of the constituents, independent of personal opinions.

I’m a born local girl, and my parents emigrated from Italy. My early education was at St Leonard’s School, Naremburn. While my first school years were a blur without speaking English, I remember our local community’s kindness to myself and my family.

I feel strongly for supporting a diverse community, respecting personal religious beliefs, culture and customs.

We have a choice in life; we either choose to see our differences or find our similarities. I’m a parent, and I know all parents are united in wanting what is best for our children’s future.

When it comes time to vote in these local elections, consider your children and the legacy you wish them to have.

Community “engagement” has become an exercise of statutory compliance and not a genuine consultation process with the objective of addressing community concerns and aspirations.

Consequently there is a lack of confidence in our community that our voice is being heard in Council’s decision making process.

I’m here to say, your voice can and has made the difference. It was your voice that has stopped the demolition of the historic Artarmon Clubhouse. It is your voice that saves the natural environment of Flat Rock Gully.

It is your voice that WILL provide future generations with a connection to their past and with pride, make our community truly a place we call home.

I will be the voice for our people’s past and for our present environment, as your councillor for the future of Naremburn ward.

Council officers provide to Councillors (who represent us) and report on issues that require a decision. The report provides the background, discussion and conclusion for the topic and makes a recommendation.

Citizens have access to these reports (agenda of the meeting) and through councillors can provide direction to council for the decision making process.

It is a key role of councillors to advocate for their citizens and not assume a position based on personal beliefs or a political party direction.

I am an independent candidate for the Naremburn ward and my advocacy will be based on the weighing evidence on its own merit. Without favour for privilege and wealth, without prejudice that colours the truth.
